Claudine Ebeid McElwain – As Senior Communications Manager in SELC’s Virginia office, Claudine plays a critical role in shaping and sharing the organization’s work in the Commonwealth. In particular, over the past few years she devoted much of her time to stopping the destructive Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a goal that was achieved when developers cancelled the project in July 2020. In addition, Claudine created and hosts SELC’s podcast, Broken Ground, which digs up environmental stories across the South. Episodes have featured Southerners tackling everything from coal ash contamination to the disproportionate impacts of sea level rise on Black communities along the coast.
Claudine honed her audio skills during her years producing and editing daily news shows for National Public Radio, including Morning Edition and All Things Considered. She holds an M.A. In Journalism from Emerson College and B.A. in International Relations from James Madison University. Claudine lives in Charlottesville, VA with her husband, two daughters (age 10 and 5) and dog.
